Mayfield might finally be able to defend his regional belt for the first time in April. (Ethan Barrientos)
"The contract is in S.F.," Mayfield told Norcalboxing.net via text. He has currently been in Philadelphia sparring former rival Danny Garcia, who is preparing for a world title shot against Erik Morales. "I'll sign it when I get back. We're still working on the money."
The Landover Arena in Southaven or FitzGerald Casino in Tunica would be the two venues most likely to host the event.
The 31-year-old Mayfield, who was born and raised in the Fillmore district, last fought in October, decking Patrick Lopez three times en route to a ten-round unanimous decision, earning his first regional belt in the process.
Brewer, a 24-year-old Cleveland native, bounced back from a third-round stoppage loss to Lopez two years ago to post the biggest victory of his career to date, a split decision against previously unbeaten Emmanuel Taylor last November.
