Norcalboxing.net/BoxingScene.com has been advised that Golden Boy Promotions will return to Woodland, Calif., on May 12, with the card to be tentatively televised by TeleFutura on their “Solo Boxeo Tecate” series.

The Woodland Community Center, about a 30-minute drive northwest of Sacramento, hosted a sellout crowd of over 1,000 earlier this month.  In that show, also on TeleFutura, junior lightweight contender Vicente Escobedo (25-3, 15 KOs) wowed his hometown fans with a first-round knockout of Lonnie Smith in the main event.

Escobedo has been one of the names mentioned to headline the card.  BoxingScene.com first reported that “Chente” is in the mix to challenge WBO 130-pound world champion Adrien Broner, who is also promoted by Golden Boy, sometime this year.

Unbeaten 19-year-old junior featherweight Manuel “Tino” Avila (7-0, 2 KOs) of nearby Fairfield, another Golden Boy fighter, captured a unanimous decision win over David Reyes on the last Woodland show.  Avila will likely appear on the May 12 undercard as well, according to the source.
