If 2011 was a year to remember for Bay Area women’s pro
boxing, then 2012 has its supporters looking for a time machine to speed
through it.
Last month, San Jose’s
Melissa McMorrow went to Mexico
to fight for a vacant flyweight championship only to lose via controversial
decision. Daly City’s
Ana Julaton fared no better, leaving her WBO junior
featherweight title belt in Argentina
after a points defeat two Fridays ago.
Ava “The Lady of Boxing” Knight will aim to break the trend
when she travels south of the border to defend her IBF flyweight title for the
very first time Saturday.
