Fresno's Gary Salazar continued his streak at Nationals with his third straight stoppage. (Team Salazar)

A total of eight local fighters advanced to the 2012 National Championship semifinals in their respective weight classes.

In the early session, Fresno bantamweight Gary Salazar scored his third consecutive stoppage to turn some heads at the Special Events Center in Fort Carson, Colo.  Sacramento light flyweight Marina Ramirez opened her journey with a dominant victory, while fellow Causeway 123-pounder Mario Ayala saw his successful run come to an end.

Other action saw S.F.'s LaRon Mitchell overcome an early deficit to cruise late in his bout, but Bakersfield's Charles Martin was not as lucky in his super heavyweight clash with a loss on the cards.

The afternoon featured eight bouts involving NorCal and Central Cal pugilists.  Olympic Trials bronze medalist Raquel Miller of S.F., top-ranked lightweight Jose Ramirez of Avenal, Pacific Grove bantamweight Jamie Mitchell, and Stockton heavyweight Antwon Abron took decisive points triumphs, while Sacramento flyweight Brent Venegas III escaped with a close one on the cards.

S.F. bantamweight Casey Morton, Vacaville lightweight Adam Fiel, and Fresno welterweight Mark Hernandez fought valiantly, but fell shy of moving on to the semis.
