From Tournament Director Candy Lopez, here is the full roster of registered amateurs for this weekend's USA Boxing Northern California Championships, which take place at Vacaville's Georgie Duke Center on Saturday and Sunday.
Expect the Open Division weight classes with only one entrant to win by walkover and appear in non-tournament bouts. Those men and women, along with the Open tournament winners, will advance straight to Nationals, which occur at the end of February in Fort Carson, Colo.
This year's Nationals have added significance in that they will serve as a "reload" tournament for the Last Olympic Qualifier in Brazil for every weight class except flyweight (114 lbs.) bantamweight (123 lbs.), and welterweight (152 lbs.).
S.F. super heavyweight LaRon Mitchell, runner-up in last year's Olympic Trials, has one last shot to make it to London 2012 under the new format--but it all starts this weekend in Vacaville.
