This Saturday, Milpitas Boxing & Fitness (1535 Landess Avenue, Milpitas) will be the site for some good old fashioned gym wars between quality local fighters that will be open to the public.

In the "headliner," former two-time world title challenger Glenn Donaire will spar with Olympic Trials junior flyweight champion Eros Correa of San Jose PAL.

"It's great just learning from Glenn in there, to see how he sets up his punches," said Correa, who is aware that 12 years ago as an amateur, Donaire advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic Trials as a junior flyweight.

While Correa prepares for U.S. Nationals at the end of the month, Donaire has a March 23 fight against Edgar Jimenez in Mexico City after stopping Alex Sanchez last December (below).

Another matchup on the docket has former lightweight Adam Fiel, who like Donaire trains out of the Kennel Boxing Gym in San Leandro, sparring fellow 132-pounder Andy Vences, Correa's teammate at San Jose PAL. Fiel is a former Philippine National Team member, while Vences is the National PAL reigning bronze medalist.

The action will start at 10 a.m., and will also include fighters from Kennel, San Jose PAL, Yaqui Lopez's Gym in Stockton, Gladiators of Redwood City, San Jose Fight & Fitness, and other clubs.

Check out the Northern California Boxing Schedule for the particulars of this event along with all the upcoming shows of note involving all our local fighters, both pro and amateur.
