Donaire's Hand Not Broken, Will Return in May or June

Here are two photos of new WBO jr. featherweight champ Nonito Donaire of San Leandro, who injured his left hand in his win over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last Saturday. The "Filipino Flash" became the first Bay Area fighter to win title belts in four divisions.

Donaire was scheduled to get the hand checked on Monday.

UPDATE: According to an interview with Ring's Lem Satterfield, Donaire's manager Cameron Dunkin said that his fighter's hand is not broken following an MRI.

"He cut a vein, and what happened is that the vein was rubbing against the wrap inside of his gloves, and the vein swelled up into a blood blister and it popped," Dunkin said Wednesday afternoon.

"And that's why the vein swelled up and it popped. According to his doctor, that caused a lot of pain. So that's what happened. But luckily, there are no breaks."

Dunkin also mentioned that Donaire should return by May or June. He previously said there was an agreement in place to fight Mexico's Jorge Arce next.
