Fresno 119-pounder Efren Lopez (Main Event B.C.) and Salinas 114-pounder Ruben Villa (Back Yard B.C.) competed against host Russia on Thursday representing Team USA in the Veles Cup.

Here's video footage of both fights:

Lopez applied constant pressure highlighted by an effective overhand right to get through the guard and wear down Sergey Shavrin, 15-6.

Meanwhile, Villa counterpunched beautifully off the southpaw stance, and soon had Artem Galyamov retreating in the last two rounds.  However, the judges awarded the decision to the Russian, 15-10.  UPDATE: Apparently, there was a scoring error and Villa was eventually named the winner.

UPDATE: The Region 11 duo added to their international successes Friday against Germany, with Lopez taking a decision and Villa winning via walkover.  Check back later for video.
