San Francisco's "Sugar" Suray Mahmutovic (415 B.C.) has effectively burst on the national scene with an upset victory over three time National Silver Gloves champ Elijah Green of St. Joseph's Mo., in Saturday's final of the National Junior Golden Gloves in Mesquite, Nev.

"We knew with a big height advantage, Suray needed to establish his jab right away," trainer Rob Fernandez said.  "Also, we needed to focus on keeping his hands up and keeping the action in the middle of the ring, and he fought the gameplan to a T."

The 6'3'' Mahmutovic, who won the the 13/14-year-old title at 165 pounds, now adds that honor to a runner-up finish at the National Silver Gloves in February.
