• The region will enjoy an eventful Saturday on June 2, starting with Nonito Donaire having a public workout in San Carlos at his training grounds of the Undisputed Gym.  As has become customary with Team Donaire, it will be free to the public, with food provided.  This time however, the "Filipino Flash" will allow fans to who sign up between 12-1 p.m. to work out alongside him before the actual workout begins at 1 p.m.  Donaire will unify his WBO junior featherweight title with South Africa's Jeffrey Mathebula in an HBO-televised tilt on July 7 in Carson.

• Promising Hayward-based junior middleweight Aaron "Heavy Metal" Coley (1-0), who trains out of SFC Boxing in The City, will take on Stockton's John Dunham (1-8-1) at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.  Coley was a nationally-ranked amateur 165-pounder before going pro.  Also, Sanger middleweight Jose Alvarez (1-1) will take on Danny Garcia (5-1, 3 KOs), who has not fought in six years. Sacramento heavyweight Larry "Cyco" Ward (0-2) of "Battle of the Badges" fame was supposed to meet debuting former national amateur champ Jon Hamm, but that fight was canceled Thursday.

A pair of Redwood City fighters, junior lightweight Jesus Partida (1-0-1) and cruiserweight Juan Hernandez (1-1, 1 KOs), will travel down to the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash., to take on separate opponents.  According to matchmaker Eddie Rodriquez, Partida will fight Gerardo Reyes (1-1), while Hernandez meets Josh Hewson (1-0).  Hernandez was involved in a NorCal Fight of the Year candidate in his last outing in April 2011 against Lamont Williams, a four-round decision loss where both men hit the deck.  Also on the card is Visalia junior middleweight Jose Leon (1-0-1), who fights Marcelino Pineda.

• A pair of amateur shows will occur on Saturday at 1 p.m..  Oakland's Pacific Ring Sports will host "Showdown in Oakland 6," while Rock Boxing will be holding their own card in Salinas.
