In a featherweight battle, Novato's Jonathan Alcantara decked Walter Sarnoi in the fifth and came away with a unanimous decision victory last Saturday at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula.
Alcantara (6-7-2, 1 KO) was taking on his 14th consecutive opponent with a winning or even record, and this time, the North Bay resident would come out on top by getting inside on Sarnoi (10-3, 5 KOs), a seasoned former amateur standout from Monterey Park, Calif.
Judge Ray Corona saw it 60-53, while Raul Caiz Sr. and Max DeLuca turned in narrow 57-56 tallies for Alcantara.
Alcantara, who outweighed Sarnoi by three pounds at the scale Friday, continues to make a name for himself as one of the toughest outs on the California circuit.
