Escobedo speaks after his last win, a first-round stoppage of Lonnie Smith.

Vicente Escobedo (25-3, 15 KOs) will no longer be facing Edner Cherry on May 12 at the Woodland Community Center in Woodland, Calif.  Instead, Juan Ruiz (23-9, 7 KOs) will step up to the plate according to sources within Golden Boy, who will stage the card with Don Chargin Productions, Jorge Marron Promotions, and Paco Presents.

Ruiz, from Santa Clarita, Calif., has lost four in a row and seven of his last eight, but has never been stopped.  Meanwhile, Escobedo, currently the No. 1 WBO junior lightweight contender, seems primed for a meeting with champion Adrien Broner in the late summer or early fall.

In the co-feature, junior middleweight Alfonso Blanco (8-0, 3 KOs) will face an unnamed opponent.

TeleFutura will televise the card as part of their Solo Boxeo Tecate series.
