Mendez, Livingston Already Talking Rematch

By Ryan Maquiñana

Following an unsatisfying ending to last Saturday’s Solo Boxeo main event between California-based super middleweights Paul Mendez (10-2-1, 4 KOs) and DonYil Livingston (8-2-1, 4 KOs) in Woodland, Calif., both fighters have already commenced talks of a rematch.

“I got a lot of respect for DonYil.  Like I said on TV, if he wants a rematch, I’ll give him one,” Mendez told BoxingScene.com.  “It will give me an opportunity to win it even more convincingly and clearly the second the time around.”

“I’ll give him that he was ahead about four rounds to two,” Livingston said.  “But the last punch was low, even if it was unintentional, and the ref should’ve given me five minutes to recover and finish the fight.  I definitely want a rematch.”

Carina Moreno in Title Fight Against Irma Sanchez

By Ryan Maquiñana
Norcalboxing.net

Moreno (right) is ready to dethrone Sanchez.

Watsonville's Carina Moreno (22-4, 6 KOs) returns to the ring Saturday night at the Unidad Deportiva Norte in Cortazar, Mex., against Irma Sanchez (24-5-1, 7 KOs).

Sanchez's minor world flyweight title will be on the line as Moreno, the former two-time world champion, attempts to bounce back from a decision loss to Cindy Amador last month.

A win would likely earn Moreno NorCal pound-for-pound consideration.

Morales Responds to Decking with Decision Win

By Ryan Maquiñana

San Ardo's Roman Morales (13-0, 6 KOs) was floored for the first time in his career, but recovered well enough to annex the first regional title belt of his career, winning a unanimous decision over Jonathan Arrellano (13-1-1, 3 KOs) Friday night at the Chumash Casino.

A left hook upstairs from Arrellano sent Morales to the canvas in the third round, but the plucky 122-pounder showed the versatility to box as well as brawl.  Morales took control after the early knockdown and scored one of his own in the seventh with a left hook to Arrellano's midsection.

Official scores were 78-72 twice and 77-73 for Morales.

PAUL MENDEZ:
“DonYil’s a good boxer, but I’ve worked on my whole game.  I’m taller than he is and I have the reach.”

“A lot of people see it as a test, but I don’t.  I just see it as doing what I’ve worked on in the gym with the Garcias in Salinas, and coming out with another win.”

DONYIL LIVINGSTON (VIA SOCIAL MEDIA):
I haven't been in the ring for six months, allowing me the opportunity to rededicate myself to my craft.  It's go time.  [The] weight is great and [the] fight will be better.”

MANUEL AVILA:
“In my last fight in August, I felt a lot better than I did in July when I was coming off a back injury.  I still had a little bit of ring rust.  This time, I felt more relaxed in there.  I’ve been working on my handspeed and my offense rather than just lay back and counterpunch.”

“I’m trying to show people I’m for real and that my record isn’t a padded one, and fighting an experienced guy like Molina, I think if I win it would be a good start.”

JOHN ALBERT MOLINA:
“I’m going to take him to deep waters after the third round and take him to school.”

ANDY VENCES:
“I’m excited to be making my pro debut.  I don’t know much about my opponent but we sold 60 tickets, and my family and friends will be there.  I’ve been training hard for this and I’ll be ready.”

RICARDO PINELL:
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s very unprofessional on [Buchanan’s] part to come in 14 pounds overweight.  We’ve been working hard for my pro debut but we’ll keep going at it in the gym.  It’s frustrating.”
